My family has a tradition each year to drive to the mountains and cut down our Christmas Trees. It is one of my favorite parts of Christmas. We usually go the weekend after Thanksgiving but because many of us were out of town we went the first weekend in December. We drove down to Delta on Friday night and although there was not any snow, it started to snow on our way. We had our truck with 4-wheel drive and thought that would be good enough since there wasn't any snow already on the ground, not even in the mountains.
Well, Friday night it snowed a ton! We woke up to several inches at my parents house and as we drove into the mountains there was more and more.
We took my parents van until the snow was too deep then we all piled into our truck and kept going.

The further we went the more snow there was. I don't think I have ever seen that much snow in these mountains, at least that I can remember. It was beautiful though.

We kept driving until the snow was just too deep for the truck. It was at least a foot deep and it was still snowing pretty hard! Even with 4 low on the truck would just spin the snow and make it slick so it couldn't get traction. We weren't even close to where we could find some decent trees and we didn't want to have to walk forever to find and then drag the trees back to the truck. So, some of us got out of the truck and became the road crew!

We would clear as much snow as we could off the road, making tracks for the tires on the truck to follow. It worked but man it was hard work. I think it was the best thigh workout I've ever had! We were able to go far enough where we only had to hike a little bit with our trees and we could turn around in the truck to come back down.

We sure had a lot of fun in the winter wonderland.

We got 6 trees in all, and we were much faster in finding them this year. We weren't quite as picky!
Here's our tree train as we dragged all 6 trees back to the truck.
